Evernote Shared City Folders & Web Clipping Tool
Before you get started on your Abroad City Assignment, you'll want to have accessed your shared Evernote city folder and be familiar with Evernote's web clipping tool. The steps below will help with that.
Steps to Access your Evernote City Folder
- Log into your Evernote account and check your messages by going to "work chat" (clicking the link should open Evernote in a new window)
- By this time, you should have received an invitation from me to join a shared Evernote folder connected to your specific study abroad site. If for some reason you haven’t received an invited, please drop me a line ASAP)
Get the Web Clipper
In an earlier exercise, you were asked to add the Evernote web clipper to your web browser extensions. If you haven’t done that already, fire up Google Chrome, or Firefox (your choice) and go to one of these URLS to add it to your browser, now:
Do a Test Run
- You are now ready to practice using the Evernote clipper to save a web page to a shared folder.
- As a practice exercise, start by going to the NYU Paris site.
- Yes, even if you aren't going to Paris, go to the site. This is a practice exercise.
- Once you get to the site, you need to look at the right hand side of your browser bar. You are looking for a grey thing that is supposed to resemble an elephant (the Evernote logo--get it? Never forgets!)
- Once you see the elephant, click it, and follow the steps outlined below.
Once you click the elephant, you will see a login prompt like so:
Go ahead and log on. The next thing you see should looks something like the image below.
You will want to locate your shared city notebook.
To do that, search under "Organize" as in the image below:
You will want to locate your shared city notebook.
To do that, search under "Organize" as in the image below:
Pick the notebook you want to save your work to and press "enter." You'll see an image like this one, below. Once you are there, you'll want to use some hashtags to help others understand why you saved something. I suggest #yourname be one of the hashtags.
Next click the green "save button," and you should see something like (but with your specified folder):
Your page is now saved. You can always check your shared folder to make sure, but be advised it sometimes takes a few minutes for something saved to show up in Evernote's system
